Ark Museum, Bukhara
|
The Ark Museum in Bukhara is physically located in the Winter Residence of the Bukhara Rulers, which was at the same time an inner fortress. You still can see the thick walls with loopholes, the Zindahn (prison) and the King's rooms, including the ceremonial hall and stables. The museum is an interesting source of information about the traditions, customs and cultures that existed in Bukhara. Experienced guides will tell you about milestones of Bukhara history, including an interesting story of how the fortress was last used as a bastion against Bolsheviks in the early 20th century, when allegedly airplanes were used to bombard the fortress with grenades.
